The Truth About Twisters
There are more tornadoes in the US than any other country every year with Canada as a close second. And often times, there power and possible-destructive nature are a huge threat to anyone who comes in contact with one. Fortunately, the tornado count is down in the US.
There are many identifying traits among the twisters. Tornadoes are identified by reaching 136 MPH but can reach up to winds as strong as 300 MPH. They have the power to lift cars, animals, and in some cases even homes into the air. While the destruction may be severe, the average tornado is on the ground for about five minutes and travel at about 10-20 MPH.
At least one tornado has hit every single state within the US since 1950. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have experienced the most and at least 3,000 have taken place in each one of those states.
If you find yourself face to face with a twister, go to the lowest level of the building you are in, stay away from windows and crouch as low as you can.
