149 people were arrested after a birthday party got out of hand.

I’m starting to think people may be a smidge pent up after spending a year and change in quarantine. When the word got out on TikTok over the weekend that Huntington Beach, California would be playing host to a birthday party, titled “Adrian’s Kickback,” around 2,500 people showed up to get in on the festivities.

“It’s like don’t you remember when you were young? You just want to go and have fun, have parties, and we kind of lost that this year because of COVID,” attendee Erica Ramirez told CBS Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, as is often the case with city-spanning beach parties, things got out of hand quickly. While there were thankfully no injuries, city property was damaged by repeated acts of vandalism, and the party-goers engaged in unruly behavior like jumping on cars and setting off illegal fireworks. Eventually, the Huntington Beach Police Department officially declared unlawful assembly, calling in support from neighboring precincts to break the party up. Ultimately, 149 people were arrested, including 121 adults and 28 juveniles, for charges including (but likely not limited to) vandalism, unruly behavior, curfew violations, and failure to disperse.
