Gemini App Reaches 1 Billion Active Users as AI Coding Platforms Surge

The AI race has reached another major milestone. Google’s Gemini app has passed 1 billion monthly active users, making it one of the company’s fastest-growing products ever.

At the same time, investors continue pouring money into AI coding platforms, while major technology companies are spending heavily on the infrastructure needed to keep increasingly powerful AI services running.

Together, these developments show that AI growth is no longer just about creating smarter chatbots. It is becoming a much larger ecosystem involving consumers, software developers, businesses, cloud providers, and chipmakers.

Gemini Joins the Billion-User Club

Reaching one billion monthly users is a huge moment for Google and its Gemini app.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone in August, describing Gemini as the fastest-growing product in the company’s history. It is also Google’s 14th product to cross the one-billion-user mark.

What’s particularly interesting is how people are using it.

According to figures shared by Google, around 63% of Gemini users interact with the app using voice. The platform is also generating more than 150 million images each day.

That suggests AI assistants are becoming much more than text boxes where people type questions. Voice conversations, images, research, creative tasks, and everyday problem-solving are becoming normal parts of the experience.

AI Coding Is Attracting Serious Money

Consumer AI isn’t the only area growing quickly.

Lovable, a Swedish startup that lets people create software using natural-language instructions, raised $400 million in a Series C funding round. The deal valued the company at approximately $13.3 billion, more than double its valuation from December 2025.

Lovable is part of the growing “vibe coding” trend. Instead of manually writing every line of code, users can describe what they want to build and allow AI to handle much of the development process.

This can make software creation more accessible to people without traditional programming experience while also helping professional developers move faster.

The company’s rapid valuation growth shows just how strongly investors believe in this part of the AI market.

Businesses Need More AI Computing Power

Behind every AI assistant or coding platform is an enormous amount of computing infrastructure.

IBM and Together AI have signed a $240 million multi-year agreement to build a large AI inference cluster on IBM Cloud.

The project will initially use around 2,000 Nvidia Blackwell-generation chips and is designed to help businesses run open AI models at scale.

Inference is essentially what happens when a trained AI model receives a request and produces an answer. As millions of people and businesses use AI throughout the day, handling those requests requires serious computing power.

That demand is turning AI infrastructure into an increasingly important part of the technology industry.

AI Is Moving Into Its Next Stage

These three developments may seem separate, but they’re closely connected.

Gemini’s billion-user milestone shows that consumer adoption continues to grow. Lovable’s funding demonstrates investor confidence in AI-powered software creation. The IBM and Together AI agreement shows how much infrastructure will be needed to support all that activity.

The focus is gradually shifting from asking whether people will use AI to figuring out how companies can support billions of users and turn that demand into sustainable businesses.

There are still plenty of questions around cost, competition, reliability, and how much people will ultimately pay for AI services.

But one thing is becoming increasingly clear. AI is moving beyond its experimental phase and becoming part of everyday digital life, from asking a question on your phone to building an entire application with a few sentences.
