The Trump administration is officially over

This morning marks the end of the beginning of the Biden administration as Joe Biden is officially inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States of America. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took their oath of office for a historic day in American history.

The inauguration ceremony started with Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance accompanied by sign language by firefighter Andrea Hall. Following the performances, Kamala Harris was sworn into office as the first Black, Asian, and woman Vice President.

Following the Vice President swearing-in ceremony, Jennifer Lopez performed “This Land Was Made For You And Me” and took the chance to incorporate lyrics from her song “Let’s Get Loud.” Lopez also started singing in Spanish that translated as a part of the Pledge of Allegiance, “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Following Lopez’s performance was the big moment with Joe Biden being sworn into office as the 46th president of the United States. Political figures in attendance cheered for President Biden including Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Trump’s Vice President Pence.

President Biden addressed the nation for the first time as President stating democracy has prevailed citing the insurrection at Capitol Hill on Jan. 6 as a nation that has come together. President Biden makes a promise to represent and support all Americans saying he’ll be working as hard for non-supports as he does for his supporters.

President Biden calls for his first act as president requesting a moment of silence and prayer for all the lives lost to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. President Biden addresses the biggest issues he will be facing in his administration tackling issues including systemic racism, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis.

Following Biden’s first address to the nation as president, country music star Garth Brook performed “Amazing Grace” followed by a poem performed by the first national poet laureate Amanda Gorman from California with ties to Kamala Harris.

The ceremony followed the formal escort of former Vice President Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence by Vice President Kamala Harris and first-ever Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff. It seems both couples parted amicably and even laughed together over a joke before Pence exits in his final motorcade ride.

This traditional transition was planned for former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden but Trump decided to make an early exit from the White House for his last trip on Air Force 1 to Palm Beach, Florida to retreat to his vacation home Mar-A-Lago. Trump released a video thanking his family and supporters as his final address to the nation as president.
