Chrissy Teigen says sorry for joking around on social media

Model and talk show host Chrissy Teigen apologized to her social media followers for a “tone-deaf” and “icky” joke she made about Apple AirPods. Teigen said her mother treats her Apple AirPods (cordless headphones) as “disposable” and said she “buys a few pairs a month.”

“My mom treats her air pods like they’re disposable. buys a few a month. she says they would be easier to not lose if they had….a cord,” Teigen tweeted.

Fans criticized Teigen for being out of touch, writing back with retorts like “I can barely afford to read this Tweet.” One Twitter user responded, “Must be nice to be able to just throw away hundreds of dollars like that.” Others simply remarked that Teigen’s “privilege was showing.”

Teigen quickly apologized to her fans, saying the tweet was intended to be funny but clearly fell flat.

“Oh man I haven’t checked my mentions for a bit and I didn’t realize how many people were super pissed off about this. It was meant as a joke (and exaggeration) about how my mom doesn’t realize air pods are with a cord are headphones but it came across as super tone deaf and icky,” Teigen wrote. “I promise I will not always say the right thing in the right way but I also promise I hate disappointing or pissing you guys off.”
