English Soccer Club Mourns Over Loss Of The Team Owner
English soccer club, Leicester City has confirmed that owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was killed in the helicopter crash that occurred following the clubs draw at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.
The club has recently released a statement stating that ‘the world has lost a great man’, adding that all five people on board had died in the tragedy.
The statement referred to Srivaddhanaprabha as a ‘man of kindness, of generosity and a man whose life was defined by the love he devoted to his family and those he successfully led.’
The statement went on to explain that a book of condolences, that would be shared with his family, will be opened at the King Power. It said: “Supporters unable to visit the King Power Stadium that wish to leave a message can do so through an online book, which will be made available on the clubs website.”
Srivaddhanaprabha brought Leicester in 2010, becoming chairman the following February. The club enjoyed promotion into the Premier League in 2014. Two seasons later the club would achieve the impossible, beating odds of 5,000-1 to win the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.
The soccer world has united behind the club and reflected on the importance of the man for the club and the city. Current and ex-players have spoke about the honesty and likeability that he had, and thanked him for helping them fulfill their dreams.
Striker Jamie Vardy wrote on social media: “Struggling to find the right words, but to me you are a legend, an incredible man who had the biggest heart, the soul of Leicester City Football Club.”
Prince William said: “My thoughts today are with the family and friends of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and all the victims of the terrible crash at Leicester City Football Club.”
The club goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel said: “You have changed football and gave hope to everyone that the impossible was possible. It breaks my heart to know I will never see you in the dressing room when I come in early from my warm-up.”
