The device will have a new approach toward taking pictures.
According to a report from The Verge, social media giant and relatively young player in the overall electronics sphere Facebook is in the process of developing their very first smartwatch device. Facebook has made attempts at hardware before, though this new device will be their first foray into the growing wearable device market.

The watch is slated to have a few mainstay features of smartwatches, such as a heartbeat monitor and Facebook and Instagram app integration. What sets this hypothetical device apart from its competitors is its use of a detachable display with two built-in cameras. The display can be removed from the wrist and held like a standalone camera for taking pictures and video. One of the display’s cameras is mounted on the front for conducting video calls, while the one on the back is a 1080p auto-focus lens for high-quality photo and video capture.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hopes that the app integrations and features on this device can help them to circumvent features that require deals with Google or Apple, creating a more enclosed digital ecosystem. This new smartwatch is slated for release sometime in summer 2022. The proposed price is around $400, though this could still change later.
