Meghan gets back into acting with royal family
The four British royals – Harry, Meghan, Kate, and William – are tackling mental health crises in the United Kingdom through a National Health Service initiative called “Every Mind Matters.” The Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex narrate a short film for the initiative, which was created by “Love Actually” director Richard Curtis.
The short film was so popular that the Web site hosting it crashed hours after it went live, due to heavy traffic. In addition to the royals, other celebrities, including Glenn Close and Gillian Anderson, appeared in the film to discuss their own mental health struggles.
“Everyone knows that feeling when life gets on top of us. All over the country, millions of us face challenges to our mental health–at all ages–at all intensities, and for all sorts of reasons,” Prince William says in the film. “We feel stressed, low, anxious, or have trouble sleeping. Me, you…”
“We think there’s nothing to be done. Nothing we can do about it,” Prince Harry says.
But the royals then offer suggestions for people struggling with mental health issues.
“But that’s so wrong. There are things we can do,” Princess Meghan says. “From today, there’s a new way to help turn things around. Every Mind Matters will show you simple ways to look after your mental health… It’ll get you started with a free online plan designed to help you deal with stress, boost your mood, improve your sleep and feel more in control.”
Like the U.S., Britain has experienced rising rates of addiction, suicide, and other serious mental health crises. Earlier this year, the royals announced they were launching an app to connect people in the U.K. with mental health services.
