Last year the world was buzzing over the news of what was dubbed #Megxit when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made history as a few members of the royal family choosing to step down from their royal title and duties. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal titles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for a 12-month period to explore their options of staying in the royal family.

After one year of living life outside of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the choice to permanently relinquish their royal titles and duties to continue civilian ventures. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were both forthcoming with the news of their decision to officially relinquish their royal titles but will reveal all in an upcoming exclusive interview hosted by Oprah Winfrey.

The exclusive interview will air on March 7 but the trailer is already revealing more about the couple’s relationship with the royal family than ever before. Despite relinquishing his royal title as the Duke of Sussex, he will retain the title of Prince because he was born into the royal title with his parents bearing royal titles of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Prince Harry will reflect on his experience being under scrutiny as a public service member with the pressure of the royal family from his father while his mother raised him to have a regular life outside of the palace. The relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana was known for the conflict of living the life ruling the commonwealth and living the life as a member of the commonwealth.

Over the last year, Prince Harry and Meghan have focused on raising their son Archie, working on entertainment ventures through their production company with a multi-year deal with Netflix, and dedicating their time to philanthropy work. The couple also privately grieved the loss of what would be their second child last year only revealing it to the public in November.

The couple admitted they appreciated privacy during their grieving period that would have been difficult if they were working members of the royal family. Their time away from the royal family also gave them the opportunity to focus more on their family leading to the recent exciting news that the couple is currently awaiting the arrival of Archie’s new sibling.

The couple recently announced the exciting news that they’re expecting but haven’t disclosed the expected birth date to maintain their privacy. This was one of the determining factors behind the couple’s choice of not returning to work as members of the royal family.

In the Oprah Winfrey interview, Prince Harry reflects on growing up as a member of the royal family while reflecting on the conflict between his parents and how the media would affect his late mother. Prince Charles and Princess Diana seemed to be a true royal fairytale that was later revealed to be a conflicting relationship.

Prince Harry reveals he was very close to his mother growing up because she would break royal protocols spending more time raising her children than serving as a member of the royal family. The royal family opposed Princess Diana’s mothering technique because it went against the norms of raising children in the royal family.

While most children of the royal family are confined in the Palace, Princess Diana closely raised and spent a lot of time with Prince Charles and Prince Harry for an unprecedented royal upbringing. Meghan Markle represents Princess Diana as a mother, choosing to raise her son Archie outside of the royal family.

Another similarity between Princess Diana and Meghan is through the media interpretation of women who married into the royal family without formal training. Most members born into the royal family receive formal training on how to conduct themselves as a member of the royal family and how to address other members according to their titles.

Princess Diana received formal training during her transition into becoming royalty that normally is learned over the course of a couple of years. The media scrutinized Princess Diana’s lack of formal royal etiquette in the early years and in the later years would be scrutinized for outshining Prince Charles in the press.

Prince Harry recalls how hard it was to see his mother under immense media scrutiny that is also happening to his wife Meghan over the last year since leaving the royal family. Prince Harry tells Oprah his account of the struggle he faced when his parents announced their separation leading to heightened media scrutiny with Princess Diana.

Prince Harry reveals more about saving his marriage and recalls his experience with his mother during her separation from his father Prince Charles. In the Oprah interview, Prince Harry holds Meghan’s hand saying, “I can’t imagine what it must have been like for her [Princess Diana] going through this process by herself all those years ago. It has been unbelievably tough for her [Meghan Markle]…but at least we have each other.”

Prince Harry also remarks his biggest concern was “history repeating itself” which could be referring to another divorce or Princess Diana’s tragic death from a fatal car crash during a paparazzi chase. Members of the royal family rarely speak as openly as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that will be featured on CBS on Sunday, March 7, from 8 to 10 p.m. PT/ET.
