The comparison is uncanny

Emma Watson, who plays Meg March in the new film adaptation of Little Women, says Taylor Swift’s battle with music producer Scooter Braun is similar to a major event in the movie.

In the famous novel, which inspired the new movie, Jo March demands the copyright to the novel she wrote. Watson said she sees similarities in Swift’s battle to retain rights to her music.

“It’s about believing in yourself and knowing your worth and owning your worth,” Watson said. “Right now, the Taylor Swift situation is a great example of, you know, you’re young and you’re talented and someone wants to buy your work, but having ownership at the end of the day is super, super important because you don’t know what someone’s going to decide to do with that…I think people undervalue ownership.”

Braun was widely denounced for buying the rights to Swift’s entire music catalog without consulting her. Swift described Braun as a “bully” and said he has prevented her from performing her own music.

“Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year,” Swift said in a public statement in November. Swift continues to speak out against Braun’s intimidation tactics.

“I feel very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate,” she said.
