History In The Making
Today is going to be a day that goes down in the record books for both the United States and Cuba. This morning for the first time in 54 years, the stars and strips will fly over the US Embassy in Cuba signifying a new era in relations between the cold war era foes.
A huge crowd gathered outside of the US Embassy to greet John Kerry in Havana for less than 12 hours to raise the American flag over the newly opened building. He is joined by three former service marines who lowered the flag back in 1961.
The ceremony will be sealing a long history of diplomatic ties, which thawed in December after talks between Raul Castro, and President Obama began. Although Kerry will not be meeting with either of the Castro’s the US believes that this is a step in the right direction.
For more information on the ceremony and history to date be sure to check out the video above.
