Wakanda Forever
Marvel’s film Black Panther broke the box office, won big at the BET Awards, and now, it’s getting its own treatment in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. That’s right, you’ll be able to see the real suit that Chadwick Boseman wore in the movie, along with other props, assets, a spec script, and original production photos. All of this is debuting this fall when the museum holds its first ever African American film festival.
Museum curator Rhea Combs said in a statement “These are images many audiences have longed to see in mainstream films, but for too long haven’t.” When Black Panther was released, it was commercial success that raked in almost 700 million dollars domestically and immediately became a staple in mainstream African-American culture. It is even more momentous for a museum chain such as the Smithsonian to feature it in a breakout exhibit.
You can expect for the Black Panther hype to continue when the exhibit goes live from October 24th-27th.
