Ugly Food: Blemished But Delicious!
Believe it or not ugly fruits and vegetables are the 20% of fruits and vegetables that are grown on farms and don’t make it to super markets each year. And the reason being is because they don’t physically look like their suppose to for example small cosmetic reasons for being too small, shaped differently, or because they have a different color.

With many people starting to become aware of the waste of these fruits and vegetables a company called Imperfect Produce is trying to fix the amount of waste. They take these fruits and vegetables from farmers for about 50% cheaper than the farmers would usually sell it to grocery stores for. Therefor people can buy the food a lot cheaper because of their imperfections.
Food waste has become a huge problem being one of the leading solids by weight in our nations landfill system. And to make matters worse when it rots in those landfills it produces methane, which is harmful to the environment. A November 2009 statistic even shows that US per capita food waste has progressively increased by 50% since 1974.

As a new company they are serving about 500 customers in their first five weeks and the numbers are continuing to skyrocket from word of mouth. The company is hoping that people will continue to see this problem and help contribute to the solution.
