Yale Reassures Their Investigating The Admissions Scam
In light of the recent college admission scandals, more students are facing the consequences of their actions. One student attending Yale had their admission revoked when the school found out that her parents invest $1.2 million in a bribery scheme for her to get into the ivy league school.
Yale is declining to reveal the name of the student expelled and confirmed the case on Monday. Top universities that are being investigated include Standford, University of Southern California, and Georgetown. Rick Singer is the man that ties all of these schools together with a network of academic connections and a series of payoffs.
The scheme would provide the means to get fake sports scholarships for non-athletic students and help students cheat on entrance exams. Singer was the one that received $1.2 million from the family of the unnamed former Yale student, he also facilitated a bribe to former women’s football coach, Rudy Meredith.
Meredith resigned last November and is one of the 50 people facing charges surrounding the college admissions scam. The university released a statement in regard to Meredith’s resigning saying that they believe to have, “provided fraudulent athletic endorsements to two applicants only; one was denied admission despite the endorsement, and the other was admitted.”
Singer and Meredith started working together in 2015, with evidence showing that Singer sent a copy of a student’s resume saying that he would supplement the applicant’s art portfolio to soccer. Meredith confirms that said applicant did not participate in competitive soccer.
In 2018 the said student was admitted and Singer paid Meredith $400,000. The FBI caught her attempting to solicit another bribe of $450,000 later that year for her services of designating a new applicant as a Yale athletic recruit.
Universities across the country are investigating into their admissions policies to ensure that this can be prevented in the future and restore their academic integrity.
