Walmart Is Fighting Hunger With NBA Star LeBron James
Basketball star LeBron James is teaming up with Walmart to help end hunger. James is the new face of Walmart’s “Fight Hunger Spark Challenge” campaign.
“The Los Angeles Lakers star is featured as a leading spokesperson for Walmart’s Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign, which raises money for the Feeding America nonprofit through the purchase of participating Walmart products. Every participating purchase helps secure someone a meal through Feeding America food banks, per the initiative,” CBS Sports reports. “More than 975,000 meals have been secured through the Fight Hunger Spark Change program thus far, according to Walmart, with more than $74 million in donations to Feeding America flowing through the campaign since 2014.”
Earlier this week, James pledged $1 million to the school he founded in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, the I Promise School. In exchange, Walmart agreed to donate food, toiletries, clothing, and other items to the school, which primarily benefits low-income children in the Akron area.
In the promotional video for Fight Hunger Spark Challenge, James said it was an “honor” to be representing Walmart’s campaign.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for me in my community and what I’m doing here to partner with such a heavy hitter in Walmart,” James said.
