Google Celebrates 20 Years
On Thursday, September 27th, Google celebrated is 20th birthday! It’s hard to believe that it’s only been twenty years since we’ve attained instant answers to any question we have at any time.
We may depend more on the very common words “Google it!” more than we think. Whenever we need an update on current events, want to win a little disagreement we’re having once and for all, or even if we just forgot the ingredients in a chicken pot pie, Google has always had our backs. Lots of sources identify Google as the most popular search engine in the world.
To celebrate, Google revealed its most popular searches, worldwide, throughout the years. Mahita Gajanan from Time explains, “Questions like “What will happen on Y2K?”, “How do you tie a tie?” and “What’s the most popular sport in the world?” made up some of Google’s most common queries in its early years.”
In more recent years, “People also asked how to dance, whether Pluto is still a planet and how autotune works… people have wondered how to pronounce “GIF” and asked “What’s a selfie?” according to the Doodle.”
Twenty years after Google was founded by Stanford University Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Pin in 1998 and Google has become so much more than just a search engine. Google, you really have grown up so fast!
