A Look At Upcoming Musicians

In this video series presented by UPROXX, we get to see a few of the U.S.’s up and coming young musicians. Seldom do people think of R&B or contemporary music when they think of Nashville, Tennessee. Well, perhaps until they hear R.LUM.R’s sound. R.LUM.R is not a typo, nor is it code for a new hashtag or slogan. It’s one of the hottest new singer/songwriter’s to hit the Nashville music scene, Reginald Lamar Williams, Jr. And no, it’s not a country sound or jazzy sound, it’s a sound all his own.

“We’re doing something different, that’s why we came here,” the artist says about the decision to live in Nashville. “We’re kind of accomplishing that since I don’t feel like I really fit in here.”

Williams clearly likes to be an odd man out, a rule shaker, a game changer…and he says he wants to change the way people view urban artists. There are a lot of preconceived notions he says he wants to put the rest. The Florida native wants to show the world that every body is unique and different, and not to judge a book by it’s cover. Reggie loves playing his guitar and he says it shocks people when they see him jamming on a guitar, which he learned at a performing arts high school.

Reggie isn’t the only artist Uncharted brings us. Jasmine Janai is and artist who is also changing the way people view music. The Phoenix native went to college in Utah on a volleyball scholarship, but soon realized she didn’t want to continue pursuing that dream because she knew she would always be thinking about her true love: music. After realizing she could write her own music, and really finding who she was as an artist, she called her parents and let them know she was moving to Atlanta to pursue that love. Her father told her, “that’s not the way life works,’ people don’t follow their dreams. But, Jasmine didn’t listen.

“It’s made my relationship with my mother much stronger,” Jasmine says. “Because I realized she’s the only person who’s always going to be there for me no matter what.”
