Well believe it or not the New Year’s resolution making tradition started a long long long time ago!
The History of the New Year’s Resolution
New Year’s Resolutions – one of those ideas that seems to have existed forever. But it did have a beginning rooted ages ago.
The New Year’s holiday was first celebrated approximately 4,000 years ago in Babylon. Then, in 153 B.C the Roman Senate declared that the new year would began on January 1st. Upon that that day the Romans set about making promises and prayers to the god Janus, after whom the month of January was named.
This then started the tradition of making certain vows or promise around the New Year. As time went on the tradition changed from vowing to the Gods to making general resolutions to keep for the next year, like being kinder to others or taking better care of ones health.
Well now that you know what started the New Year’s Resolution tradition…are you going to keep yours?
