A Sports Filled Weekend It Was

The Los Angeles Dodgers evened their National League Championship Series with the Chicago Cubs on Sunday with a 1-0 victory powered by pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Kenly Jansen.

Kershaw retired the first 14 batters and struck out six over seven innings, with Jansen coming on for the six-out save in the eighth inning. The series continues on Tuesday.

The Toronto Blue Jays trail the Cleveland 2-0 in their best-of-seven series in the American League, with Game 3 on Monday night in Toronto.

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys won their fifth consecutive game, beating the Green Bay Packers 30-16 at Lambeau Field. Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a few turnovers but also threw three touchdown passes…The Washington Redskins won their fourth straight, topping the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20. The Redskins rang up 493 total yards and sacked Carson Wentz five times…The Houston Texans came from two touchdowns down to beat the Indianapolis Colts 26-23 in overtime…The Seattle Seahawks withstood a third quarter in which Matt Ryan threw three touchdown passes and beat the Atlanta Falcons 26-24…Odell Beckham Jr. scored touchdowns on receptions of 75 and 66 yards and had 222 receiving yards for the New York Giants, who beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-23. The Giants snapped a three-game losing streak while the Ravens lost for their third straight…The Pittsburgh Steelers fell 30-15 to the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is due for surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee Monday morning. He’ll miss the upcoming game against the New England Patriots.

College Football

Ohio State’s overtime victory by 30-23 over Wisconsin enabled the Buckeyes to hold on to the No. 2 ranking in the AP poll. Alabama got every vote but one for the top spot. Michigan, which didn’t play, moved up to No. 3 as Clemson slipped back to fourth following its overtime victory over North Carolina State.

NASCAR

Kevin Harvick pulled off a bit of a miracle at Kansas Speedway. Last in the field for the Chase for the Sprint Cup, he won Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 to clinch a spot in the field of eight. Carl Edwards was second. The cut comes after the race at Talladega.
