Setting The Rules Straight
Oh the joys of technology. When you child turns that age where all their friends have phones and they’re wondering why they don’t have one, you know it’s time to have ‘the talk.’
Technology can be your best friend or worst enemy so make sure your child knows and understands your rules. The first thing you should do is ask your child why he or she needs a phone. If it’s to keep up with social media you may want to reassess, but if it’s because they need to contact you after a practice or for a ride home it might be time.
Make sure when they get a phone they know what their limits are. A good thing to discuss is what they can and can’t download for example games and music. They should also know when and where it’s appropriate to use their phone, you don’t want you child texting at the table when at a friend or families house.
Last but not least you ‘re going to want to talk about when to turn the device off, most kids have a hard time with this one. We’ve all heard the ‘but mom just five more minutes’ spiel before. So before getting your kids a phone be sure to review and check out the video above for more awesome tips!
