A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
Ah, a summer Friday night. It is redolent of pine trees (if you’re camping) or car exhaust (if you’re commuting). But it’s Friday night, the start of our weekend and the time to crack open the Weekend TV Six-pack.
We know everyone is excited about preseason NFL football. Giddy, even. So let us ease into the fun, put one toe in the water before we plunge. Which means? Baseball. Friday night, MLB at 7 p.m. E.T., the Boston Red Sox at the New York Yankees. The Sox have won nine of their last 10 and lead the Yankees by 4 ½ games in the American League East.
This may present a dilemma for the New York crowd. Because the New York Giants are on the NFL Network at 7 p.m. against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rest easy, this is why we have remotes (clickers, for you Red Sox fans).
Having established our heiner/recliner status, we are adequately prepared for a Saturday of golf. No, not playing it. Don’t be ridiculous. Watching it. The PGA Championship’s third round at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C., appears magically on TNT at 11 a.m., then migrates to CBS at 2 p.m.
Repeat this same process on Sunday for the final round of the season’s last major. Same coordinates all the way around.
Sunday afternoon brings us the guys who go round and round, which will they do at Michigan International Speedway for NASCAR’s Pure Michigan 400. NBC Sports Network shows this at 3 p.m.
Wrap up the weekend with more preseason football. The Seattle Seahawks visit the Los Angeles Chargers as we get a look at the NFL’s smallest stadium – the StubHub Center, which holds 30,000. It’s the Bolts’ temporary home until the park they’ll share with the Los Angeles Rams opens in 2019. NFL Network, 8 p.m.
Wasn’t this helpful? Life is about finding balance.
