Gervais stirs controversy at the Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais, the controversial host of the annual Golden Globes award show, never shies away from an edgy joke. But Gervais really went over-the-top during Sunday night’s show, blasting Hollywood stars for their connections to the Apple corporation and Jeffrey Epstein.

“Let’s have a laugh at your expense, shall we? Remember, they’re just jokes,” Gervais said during his opening monologue. “Apple roared into the TV game with ‘The Morning Show,’ a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. So you say you’re ‘woke’, but the companies you work for, Apple, Amazon, Disney…If ISIS had a streaming service you would be calling your agents.”

Gervais even singled out individual stars, poking fun at Martin Scorese’s height and Leonardo DiCaprio’s habit of dating women decades younger.

“‘The Irishman’ was amazing. Long, but amazing. It wasn’t the only epic movie. ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’? Nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end, his date was too old for him,” Gervais said.

Gervais, who was hosting his last Golden Globes on Sunday, also warned the nominees not to pontificate about politics while accepting their awards.

“So, if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg,” Gervais said. “So, if you win, come up, accept your little award. Thank your agent and your god, and f*** off!”
