Natalie Portman Claims That Moby Acted “Creepy” Towards Her
Musician Moby has canceled his book tour for his new memoir after actress Natalie Portman disputed the book’s claims that Moby dated her in the early 2000s. Portman said that’s not how she remembered it, saying it was more of a “Me Too” situation involving an older man being “creepy” toward her.
Portman said Moby was in his 30s and she was still in her teens when he began making unwelcome advances.
“I was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school,” Portman said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
Moby disputed the actress’s characterization of him, initially standing by his claims that Portman was briefly his girlfriend. But after a social media backlash, Moby cancelled his book tour and said he was taking a break from the public eye. He posted a lengthy apology on Instagram, saying he should have consulted Portman before mentioning her in his memoir. He also admitted he should’ve acted more “responsibly,” given the fourteen-year age gap between him and Portman.
“I also fully recognize that it was truly inconsiderate of me to not let her know about her inclusion in the book beforehand, and equally inconsiderate for me to not fully respect her reaction,” Moby wrote.
True to the memoir’s name, “Then It Fell Apart,” it looks like Moby’s book tour has indeed fallen apart.
