Former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was indicted in Chicago by special prosecutor, Dan Webb, for six felony counts of disorderly conduct in relation to his previous case in which he attempted to play the victim in a staged fake hate crime. The city of Chicago is suing Smoellett for $130,000 and the charges derived from four separate false reports Smollett gave to the police while claiming to be a victim of a hate crime while “knowing that he was not the victim of a crime.”

Smollett isn’t the only one to land in hot water over his case, the indictment questions the county prosecutors’ decision to drop the charges in Smollett’s previous case. The statement also brings to light the fact that prosecutors did not thoroughly explain their decision to the special prosecutors.

The authorities dropped the abruptly dropped the charges against Smollett in March 2019, five weeks after allegations were filed and Smollett agreed to let the city of Chicago keep his $10,000 bail according to prosecutors. The police chief and mayor questioned why Smollett wasn’t forced to admit that the fake hate crime was committed to advance his acting career. Smollett is scheduled to appear in court on February 24 and he has denied orchestrating the attack.
