Putting Sodium Benzoate Back Where It Belongs

Many people around the world are starting to really focus on their health and what they are consuming. And along with people, restaurants are trying to also improve what they put inside their food and the ingredients that they use to preserve the food with. For those of you who aren’t familiar with a popular preservative known as sodium benzoate, it’s an artificial preservative found in sauces, jellies, and even pickled foods. But believe it or not, it’s also an ingredient in fireworks….yes, you heard that right!

Many restaurants still use these preservatives and you consume these ingredients more often than you think. Reading labels and even asking restaurants for the ingredients is key. So to celebrate the removal of all artificial preservatives from Panera food, they brought fireworks for Independence day to Johnston City, IL…for the first time in 10 years!
