A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
Boxing’s move over the years to pay-per-view has put its premier fights behind expensive paywalls. This blog speaks only for itself but the typist behind it refuses to pay $69.95 to stay home and watch something in the den.
So fight fans get a treat on Saturday night as boxing tops our Weekend TV Six-Pack. And the fights are free (in theory, since you are already paying for cable). ESPN will show a pair of bouts worth your time – super middleweight Shane Mosley Jr. vs David Touissaint at 8 p.m. ET and Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn for the welterweight title at 9 p.m. The fights are taking place in Brisbane, Australia. Pacquiao has won 10 titles in eight weight divisions and does not plan to fight much longer (said every boxer ever).

Competing with the fights, however, are our friends who go round and round at high speed, removing the paint from each other’s cars. NASCAR’s Coke Zero 400 runs at Daytona at 7:30 p.m. and will be carried by NBC.
The U.S. men’s soccer team has a friendly match with Ghana on Saturday. Coach Bruce Arena keeps remaking the roster in pursuit of a World Cup bid, so it could be interesting to see what sort of lineup he puts on the field. ESPN, 5 p.m.
Sunday looks a bit lean, but we’ll try. With Major League Baseball’s All-Star voting over, the unveiling of the American League and National League teams takes place at 2 p.m. on MLB. Lot of talk, not much action.
And the Quicken Loans National’s final round will give you a bit of PGA Tour golf on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. on CBS. If you prefer the legendary dudes to today’s flat-bellies, the U.S. Senior Open airs on Fox at 1 p.m.
Let your heiner and your recliner never part.
