From Singapore To America

Some people hate flying and it would be safe to assume, this flight probably isn’t for you.

Friday saw the longest non-stop flight in the world finally land at its end destination of Newark, NY. The newly developed A350-900ULR aircraft was purpose built for this kind of distance, the flight that is operated by Singapore Airline is strictly for those looking for the most luxurious of flights.

The travel was truly VIP, with extra leg room and and higher ceiling to enable passengers to have more space and luxury when flying. If that wasn’t enough, there was also dimming lights that are thought to help when sleeping on board and also to help with the effects of jet-lag. If you struggle to sleep when flying, the flight also had an answer to that, with over 1,000 hours worth of in-flight entertainment on board, ranging from films, TV shows and music.

The flight departed from Singapore Changi Airport at 11:37pm before landing in America at 5:29am, just over 30 minutes ahead of schedule. That is over 17 hours and 52 minutes in the sky!

This was the inaugural flight of its kind but it has already been announced that it will be a recurring route. It will be run three times a week, departing from Singapore on Monday, Thursday’s and Saturday’s. It has recently been announced that due to the popularity and the success of the first flight that the route will be available daily starting from October 18th.

The flight is particularly designated to the business operators that work between the two cities, with one on board stating: “It’s so much easier to get on the plane in New York, sit for a really long time and then walk off the plane in Singapore. I will go right back to taking this flight on a regular basis.”
