Newly Released Footage Reveals Arrest at Miami Airport

Newly released body camera footage reveals the arrest of 73-year-old Donna Adelson at Miami International Airport in November, as she and her husband were attempting to board a one-way flight to Vietnam. The arrest was made in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting her former son-in-law, Florida State University law professor Daniel Markel.

Donna Adelson faces charges of first-degree murder and solicitation of murder, with prosecutors alleging she conspired with her son and others to orchestrate the killing of Markel in 2014. This alleged plot reportedly stemmed from a court battle between Markel and his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, who is Donna Adelson’s daughter. Wendi had sought to relocate with her two sons, leading to a confrontation over the proposed arrangement.

“Who did it appear to have a motive to want Dan Markel dead? His own family,” stated Prosecutor Georgia Cappleman, emphasizing the Adelson family’s alleged involvement in the scheme.

While Donna’s son, Charlie, has already been convicted of first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence, Donna’s attorney maintains her innocence, stating, “We look forward to proving it at trial.” Donna is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, and prosecutors argue that her attempt to flee the country could be used as evidence against her.

Authorities are working on potential extradition from Vietnam, with Donna reportedly discussing extradition laws in a jail call with Charlie before her arrest.
