will the show go on?
All major events around the world are working out the logistics of whether to postpone or cancel upcoming events with the surrounding circumstances with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic including the biggest night in Hollywood, the Oscars. Everyone is wondering whether the stars will be lining up on the red carpet for the Oscars.
The slated date for the upcoming Oscars is set for February 28, 2021 but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is taking new developments into consideration. Though the Academy has yet to confirm whether they will postpone the event but is looking to be more likely than not for now.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Academy to consider new ways of providing entertainment to people who are practicing social distancing following stay-at-home orders. The Academy is exploring more options to shift showing new movies from theaters to homes with digital premieres.

Films that are considered for Oscars awards are required to have a seven-day release run in Los Angeles but now other cities can be apart of the consideration including the Bay Area, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami. Production and release delays could also mean that there could be fewer nominees and make for a less fair competition.
Whether the Oscars will go on as planned is yet to be seen as it’s impossible to know the status surrounding COVID-19 in the near future. The Academy is sure of one thing, they will continue celebrating film despite not knowing what lies ahead but ensures that they will be doing their best to ensure the safety of all participants.
