Be Careful When Asked To Provide Private Information
Netflix users are being targeted for the second time in the last year by a phishing scam. A phishing scam is an email scam that tries to get users to hand over personal credit card information. The latest Netflix email scam asked current users to update their credit card information, and of course the users were routed to a ‘real looking’ Netflix site to update their info.
There are 99 million Netflix users in the U.S., so it’s no wonder hackers and scammers target a large data base of users such as Neflix’s. This scam has already put thousands of these users at risk. Brand hacking is not a new thing, and it relies heavily on well-known companies like Netflix, to get people to trust fraudulent emails. Experts say this phenomenon will only continue to get persist as the online technology era booms.
How does one know when they receive a real or fake email from a company like Netflix? Use common sense, and be very careful when asked to provide any private information such as credit card info. Netflix has a disclaimer on its site that urges its users to be careful and to report any emails that appear to be fraudulent.
