Lavigne got some tips from the original “Sk8er Boi.”
Monday was Go Skateboarding Day, an unofficial holiday created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies in 2004 to make skateboarding a more accessible sport and hobby. On this day, skateboarding events are held all over the world, from contests to showcases. In honor of this distinctly millennial celebration, Avril Lavigne, singer of the classic 2002 track “Sk8er Boi,” teamed up with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk for a TikTok video.
I just posted my first @tiktok_us with the legendary @tonyhawk… go check it out!https://t.co/W7XjhRxtO6 pic.twitter.com/by7PJmKMG7

In Lavigne’s video, she lip-syncs to the music while Hawk performs some of his signature stunts in the background. While Hawk is well into his fifties now, he’s still quite spry on a board, just as talented now as he was in the myriad competitions he won in the 80s and 90s. Following Lavigne’s video, Hawk also posted a video to his Instagram showing him attempting to teach Lavigne to perform a ramp drop-in. Sadly, she wiped out, but she dusted herself off with a laugh and got back up to try again.
“Thanks for teaching me to drop in Sk8er Man… legend,” Lavigne wrote on Hawk’s post.
