The Golden Globes 2021 will honor 25 categories with some returning stars and newcomers to the awards event. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the nominees with the streaming services including Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime contending against the declining box office.
With more people opting to stay home, streaming services have some of the most-watched series and movies dominating the nominee list in nearly every category. Another newcomer to the Golden Globes is the new streaming platforms HBO Max, Disney+, and Apple TV Plus.

Despite the good news for the streaming services, there were some popular TV shows and movies that were shockingly snubbed. The popular debut Netflix series “Bridgerton” wasn’t nominated for a single award.
Another popular Netflix series “Ratched” wasn’t considered a hit with the critics but landed three nominees for Best Drama Television Series, Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Television Series for lead Sarah Paulson, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) overlooked critically acclaimed movies including Spike Lee’s “Da Five Bloods” and Zendaya’s latest film “Malcolm & Marie” which received rave reviews from critics. The Golden Globes isn’t guaranteeing any veterans a nomination including Tom Hanks who was snubbed for his Apple+ film “Greyhound” and his new film “News of the World” that was nominated for two other Golden Globe awards.
There’s apparently a first time for everything. Meryl Streep, the most celebrated human being in #GoldenGlobes history with 32 nominations, was snubbed twice — for her comedic turns in #TheProm and #LetThemAllTalk. https://t.co/CV4lWDgiFw pic.twitter.com/jaHsuJmxRS

Another veteran that was snubbed was Meryl Streep for her performance in “The Prom” but her co-star, James Cordon, was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture. “The Prom” was also nominated for Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture but will be competing against the popular Broadway musical “Hamilton.”
A unique nominee is for the Sia debut film “Music” with two nominations for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy picture for leading actress Kate Hudson and Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
