Peele has released another fascinating, insightful film.

While comedian and filmmaker Jordan Peele is well-known for his comedic pursuits, the release of his film Get Out in 2017 proved that he knew how to make an insightful, poignant, and unsettling film. Since then, Peele has released several other movies of similar quality, and according to the press for his newest picture, Nope, he’s done it again.

The film, which is slated to premier this weekend, follows a pair of siblings who discover an alien vessel above their home, and seek to unravel its mysteries. According to early press for the film after pre-screenings, it does a good job on playing off of the established tropes of the sci-fi genre with a distinctly Peele twist.

“Jordan Peele’s Nope is his most confident, unfettered, and potentially most divisive vision yet,” writes journalist Simon Thompson on Twitter. “Swapping the exclamation marks of horror for the question marks of sci-fi, this is less about scares. With hints of Close Encounters, Jaws, and more, #NopeMovie is a real puzzlebox.”

“Jordan Peele’s #Nope is one of the best films I’ve watched this year!” writes Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes critic Erik Davis. “It’s frightening & ferocious, but also very funny & unlike any UFO movie you’ve ever seen. It is a wholly unique & VERY entertaining horror epic full of wild surprises & an unforgettable Keke Palmer performance.”
