Kyle Busch has raced only five times since breaking his right leg and left foot a day before the current NASCAR season began.
He got his first win on Sunday, at Sonoma, Calif., with a fascinating twist. He and his brother Kurt finished 1-2 for the first time in their Sprint Cup careers.
“I was trying to figure if we’d ever finished 1-2 before, and today we did it,” Kurt Busch said.
Jeff Gordon of neighboring Vallejo finished 16th in his final race at his home track. The four-time NASCAR champion is retiring at season’s end
Kyle Busch had not won in 35 races, dating to March of 2014. He missed 11 races after crashing at Daytona on Feb. 21.
WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
The Women’s World Cup semifinals take place this week. The United States plays Germany on Tuesday in Montreal and England meets defending champion Japan on Wednesday in Edmonton. The US defeated China 1-0 on Friday night in Ottawa, Ontario, despite the absence of Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday due to yellow card accumulation.
England made it to the semis for the first time by defeating host Canada 2-1 in Vancouver, B.C. Germany is ranked No. 1 in the world by FIFA and is the highest-scoring team in the tournament, while the U.S. has not been scored on in 423 minutes.
