Happy New Years
Happy New Year! May 2016 bring you peace, prosperity and enough time to enjoy all of the sports offerings that TV delivers.
If you are not sated after Thursday’s three college football bowl games and you can focus your eyes after welcoming 2016, here is your weekend TV six-pack of viewing delights …
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
There are five bowl games with which we can celebrate New Year’s Day, and who are we to tell fans which to watch and which to avoid? It’s like a buffet – everything’s good, but some items are a little tastier. We’ll take two from this steam tray, first and foremost the Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl. We love the matchup – No. 8 Notre Dame vs. No. 7 Ohio State – and we want to know exactly what a Battlefrog is. The Rose Bowl pits No. 6 Stanford against No. 5 Iowa and this should be a bruiser. Iowa was one play away from being in the College Football Playoff.
Saturday brings us the Alamo Bowl, matching No. 15 Oregon and No. 11 TCU. TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested on Thursday morning outside a bar in a scuffle with police, so that changes the story line of this game.
College Basketball
Saturday afternoon gives us a matchup of Top 10 teams – No. 9 Butler at No. 6 Xavier. This will be a nice respite from football.
NFL
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills: If the Jets win, they’re in the playoffs. And they have to beat their former coach, Rex Ryan, to make it. Fascinating.
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers: The Sunday night finale to the regular season. Both are in the playoffs, but the victor will be the NFC Central Division champion.
