The controversial bill has already been met with severe pushback.
This morning, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially signed the state’s new voting bill into law. With the enforcement of this new bill, greater restrictions will be placed on voting by mail, voter ID requirements, private election funding, and limits on ballot pickup and drop-off.
“Me signing this bill says: Florida, your vote counts, your vote is going to be cast with integrity and transparency and this is a great place for democracy,” DeSantis said.

In an unusual departure from the norm, all news outlets with the exception of Fox were barred from attending DeSantis’ signing ceremony, and that Fox’s Fox and Friends had “exclusive rights” to the event.
Multiple organizations, including League of Women Voters of Florida and the Black Voters Matter Fund, have already filed lawsuits challenging the bill’s provisions, with an increased emphasis on restrictions on ballot drop box placement and disallowing volunteers to return ballots on others’ behalf. One lawsuit, filed jointly by Common Cause, Florida branches of the NAACP and a disabilities rights group, has accused the bill of promoting voter suppression efforts targeting Black, Latino, and disabled voters.

“That bill that was passed in the state just north of us sent us a message, and the response to that bill should let us know we should not be doing this,” Democratic Florida Representative Michael Grieco said during a House debate.
