Late Pop Artist Memoir To Release Posthumous

Superstar singer Prince was working on a memoir before his untimely death in April 2016. More than three years later, Random House plans to release the memoir, “The Beautiful Ones,” posthumously. The memoir will include the incomplete manuscript that Prince wrote, along with never-before-seen photos and song lyrics.

“‘The Beautiful Ones’ is the deeply personal account of how Prince Rogers Nelson became the Prince we know: the real-time story of a kid absorbing the world around him and creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and the fame that would come to define him,” Random House said in a press release.

Chris Jackson, who edited “The Beautiful Ones” for Random House, says the memoir covers much of the late singer’s life story, from his childhood in New Jersey to international stardom following the release of his most famous album, “Purple Rain.” Prince hand-wrote the first 50 pages of the memoir. The final, published work will total almost 300 pages.

“It’s a genuinely moving and energizing literary work, full of Prince’s ideas and vision, his voice, and image,” Jackson said when the book’s release was announced. “It’s a treasure not just for Prince fans but for anyone who wants to see one of our greatest creative artists and original minds at work on his greatest creation: himself.”

Prince was 57 years old when he died from an overdose of the potent opioid drug fentanyl. Random House says “The Beautiful Ones” is slated for official release on October 29, 2019.
