#11 Oklahoma vanquished the #3 Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl.

They handed Alabama their second loss of the season, winning 45-31.

The favored Crimson Tide still played nearly as well as expected. McCarron went 19/30 with 387 yards and 2 TDs. They also had a successful run game, with TJ Yeldon and Derrick Henry both scoring rushing TDs. One of Henry’s TDs was a 45 yard run which greatly added to his 100 rushing yards and 61 receiving yards.

But despite all of this, Alabama still made some crucial mistakes that cost them the game. In addition to his 2 TD’s, McCarron also had 2 interceptions that were both eventually returned for TDs.

And it didn’t help that Oklahoma played an astounding game. They out-showed Alabama in nearly every way.

Trevor Knight played a big role in the Sooners’ success. Knight had a great end to his freshman year by throwing 32 out of 44 passes for 348 yards for 4 TDs. Knight’s performance set a  Sugar Bowl record.

With this Bowl Game, a new era begins with the two teams.  Alabama has been one of the top ranked teams for a long time now. They won the last two national titles. Now, they’ve lost the Sugar Bowl, and QB McCarron is getting ready to graduate.  But I seriously doubt the Sooners will spend much time out of the spotlight.

For the Sooners and their phenomenal freshman quarterback, all things can do is get better.
