Mayor Bill de Blasio was sworn in by Former President Bill Clinton as the 109th mayor of NYC in front of City Hall on Wednesday.
Bill de Blasio’s inauguration as the 109th mayor of New York City provided an impressive backdrop for the media’s cameras: In attendance were a former president as well as a potential one come 2016 — his wife Hillary, actor and former FDNY firefighter Steve Buscemi, a long line of New Yorkers holding paper tickets, and the ubiquitous security of the NYPD positioned high and low.
Though Mayor de Blasio was joined on stage by has wife Chirlane McCray and their children Chiara and Dante, he was quoted saying “what makes today so special isn’t just my family, but our larger New York family.”
After taking the oath of office, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke of the “quiet crisis” of income inequality in his inauguration address.
de Blasio went on to say, “We are called to put an end to economic and social inequalities that threaten to unravel the city we love. And so today, we commit to a new progressive direction in New York. And that same progressive impulse has written our city’s history. It’s in our DNA.”.
Indeed, we heard some very powerful words from the newly sworn in Mayor and we’re excited to see what successes and challenges the future holds for New York’s 109th Mayor.
