Anthony Davis commits to the Lakers for the next five seasons

One of the biggest deals in the NBA is currently being finalized with a $190 million contract with the LA Lakers for the new prospective player Anthony Davis. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN revealed the contract will start with a minimum salary starting at $32.7 million for the 2020-2021 season.

The contract stipulates that Davis’ salary will increase every year over the course of the five-year contract. Here is a breakdown of five-year contract salary stipulations:

  • 2020-2021 $32,740,000
  • 2021-2022 $35,361,360
  • 2022-2023 $37,980,720
  • 2023-2024 $40,600,080
  • 2024-2025 $43,129,440 (optional)
  • Davis’ contract also has the option of early termination before the 2024-2025 season for the fifth year of the deal with the first four seasons guaranteed. The Lakers have also committed LeBron James for a two-year deal for $85 million under an extension of his own deal.

This two-year contract could be the last season of James’ career according to NBA guidelines. By the end of James’ two-year contract, he will be 38-years-old and the NBA restricts long-term contracts from extending for players beyond the age of 38. Both players are represented by Rich Paul and Klutch Sports who indicate James plans on spending the rest of his career in Los Angeles.
