Kelly Rowland, former member of Destiny’s Child and a successful R&B singer in her own right, was found today adrift in a private boat lost at sea. No foul play is suspected, and the captain was reportedly disoriented when he drove the boat 33 miles out past the destination of Provincetown, Massachusetts. Rowland, who appeared as a guest judge on the 2011 American version of X Factor, was found without injuries and is reportedly in good health and attitude despite spending twelve uncomfortable hours at an increasingly thrashing sea.

She has not yet commented on her erstwhile sojourn as of this writing, but there is no indication that she was harmed emotionally or physically by the extensive detour. Considering the history of celebrities and singers being lost at sea, Rowland has faired well; although only 31 boats have been officially lost at sea in the past 80 years, numerous celebrities have suffered on the empty ocean, including NFL player Marquis Cooper, who had a boating accident in 2009 that resulted in his disappearance. Capsized ships and lost tours have led to thousands of incidents this year alone, and while the town boat Rowland was on steered assuredly, if off-direction, coast guards located it in a rolling fog and six foot waves. Noah Santos, the captain of a town boat dispatched to find the missing ship, concurs. “It was pretty rocky out there,” he says.

Adrift the Tides

Rowland’s rescue was timely, but had it taken the coast guards longer to located the boat this story would likely have a tragic ending for at least one or more passengers, as personal injuries, traumas and infections resulting from sea water are commonplace considering the 12 hour duration of the boat trip. Even when there is no immediate danger present in the weather or the condition of the boat, being lost at sea is a danger in and of itself in that most boats are not equipped with the proper nutrition and bedding to comfortable keep its passengers for unscheduled amounts of time. The passengers themselves, stranded from stores and grocers, are unable to find food themselves. The isolation and beauty of the ocean is a sight to behold, but that same isolation can become a challenge whenever a boat becomes lost in its uncharted and unmanned territory.

Rowland, who ventured out yesterday on a rented craft that she procured for whale-watching, ended up getting lost despite being part of a commercial whale watching venture. In fact, whale watching trips are common to the Massachusetts area, and the waters are often filled with tourists and transport ships throughout the summer months. Accidents can happen anywhere at any time for any reason, and this illustrates that lesson without the need for a tragic ending. Passengers reached for comment replied collectively, “We’re great. Just a little shook up.”

Kelly Rowland

Many people might recognize Rowland from her recently Superbowl performance, in which she reunited Destiny’s Child and performed with singer Beyonce. Rowland can currently be seen in her new album, ‘Talk a Good Game’, which debuted in the United States on June 18th. Its first two singles, ‘Dirty Laundry’ and ‘Kisses Down Low’, have both charted on the R&B and hip-hop song billboards.
