Jimmy Kimmel Pokes Fun At College Admissions Scandal
On his show Wednesday night, funnyman Jimmy Kimmel proposed creative punishments for the parents caught up in the college admissions cheating scandal. Fifty wealthy and influential parents, including actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, are facing charges that they bought their kids’ admission into prestigious colleges by paying scammers to forge academic records and cheat on the SATs.
“I want each one of you to know, that you were accepted into this audience on your own merits and not because your parents paid to get you in here,” Kimmel joked to the audience as he opened the show.
Kimmel then said the parents involved in the cheating scandal should be jailed until their kids get “a perfect score on the SAT.”
“Maybe like, once every 10 days they can take the test. Might take a week, might take 30 years, we don’t know,” Kimmel joked.
Lori Loughlin and her husband have been charged with money laundering, bribery, and other criminal charges and face decades in prison if convicted. The charges are related to accusations they paid $500,000 to a fake charity in exchange for scammers getting their two daughters into the University of Southern California.
Loughlin and her husband have both pleaded not guilty. Actress Felicity Huffman signed a deal with prosecutors on April 4th that will likely lead to her serving four to ten years in prison, with prosecutors recommending a sentence on the “lower end” of that scale.
