Aubrey Huff has something to say about the new Giants hire
Former San Francisco Giants player Aubrey Huff criticized his old team for hiring a female coach, saying “this has #MeToo written all over it.” Huff made the remarks after the Giants announced they were hiring Alyssa Nakken, a former Sacramento State softball player, as a coach.
“I got in trouble for wearing a thong in my own clubhouse when female reporters were present. Can’t imagine how it will play out with a full time female coach running around. This has #metoo & #BelieveAllWomen written all over it,” Huff tweeted.
His comments grew more sexist from there. Later on, Huff added, “Couldn’t imagine taking baseball instruction from an ex female softball player,” he wrote with an eye-rolling emoji. “Have fun with that.”
Of course, Twitter users offered their own snarky comebacks. “I can’t imagine an ex baseball player having a female’s name, but here you are!” @PhilSchwarzmann replied to Huff.
San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler defended his decision to hire Nakken, as well as Mark Hallberg, as assistant coaches.
“Alyssa and Mark are highly respected members of the organization and I’m delighted that they will now focus their talents on helping to build a winning culture in the clubhouse,” Kapler said. “Simply, I think she’s going to be a great coach…Merit and the ability to be a great coach trumps all.”
