The neurological disorder has prompted Dion to postpone her next shows.
Prominent singer/songwriter Celine Dion announced today that, following a recent medical diagnosis, she will be postponing several of the show dates on her current European concert tour. According to Dion, she has been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that affects the spinal column and brain. This has impacted her ability to sing and perform.
Celine Dion has revealed she has a rare medical condition that has forced her to postpone dates on her European tour next year.
“As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now,” the singer said. https://t.co/it8QOxJkiJ pic.twitter.com/qcNss7L7uZ

“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having,” Dion said in an Instagram post. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, this condition can cause both severe muscle stiffness and paralysis, as well as powerful muscle spasms. In extreme cases, these spasms can be strong enough to cause bone fractures.
“I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,” Dion said. “But I have to admit it’s been a struggle.”

“I miss you so much,” she said. “I miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you. I always give 100% when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that right now.”
“Take care of yourselves. Be well. I love you guys so much, and I really hope I can see you again real soon.”
