The Much Anticipated Film Does Not Disappoint

One of the biggest let downs is when a movie gets a ton of publicity and pumping up in the press, only to be a huge flop when it hits the theaters. When it comes to “Black Panther,” that couldn’t be further from the truth. The much anticipated Marvel film crushed box office records during its opening weekend.

The movie, though it received a lot of excitement in the press beforehand, managed to exceed expectations by raking in a whopping $200 million during opening weekend. That marks the highest opening for a film by a black director as well as the highest opening for a majority black ensemble cast in box office history. The star-studded cast includes Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Eric Killmonger, and Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia (just to name a few).

The premise of the film is about a young man named T’Challa, who returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king after his father passes away. He is challenged as king, and as the Black Panther, when an enemy from the past reappears. It doesn’t appear to be slowing down in sales, so there is still the chance for the highly-accredited film to break more box office records yet!
