Mayfield blasts Browns training staff

Even when the Cleveland Browns win, it feels like they lost. That was the mood after the Browns’ victory over the rival Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. In a post-game press conference, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield blasted the team’s training staff for mishandling receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s injuries.

Beckham has a sports-related hernia, which he acquired at training camp earlier this year.

“Yeah, I’d say that wasn’t handled right. He’s not able to run as well as he should be able to, as well as he knows, and that’s frustrating for him,” Mayfield said. “You can sense that’s some of his frustration where that comes from. Wasn’t handled the right way in our training room. So it is what it is. His ‘not 100 percent’ is still good enough for us.”

Later, Mayfield appeared to rescind his comments on Twitter, saying he meant no disrespect to the training staff.

“My intentions were not to throw our medical staff under the bus. No I don’t know all the facts about Odell’s injury,” Mayfield said. “It was emotionally answered because I can sense his frustration and I care about my team and putting us in the best position to win.”

Rumor has it that Odell Beckham Junior, frustrated with the Browns, wants to leave the team next year.
