All upcoming sports events that are canceled or postponed

With the official declaration of the coronavirus reaching the levels of a pandemic, more events are being canceled or postponed including the upcoming sports seasons and events. We give you an update on the impact of the coronavirus on all the affected sports.

The organizers for the 2020 Summer Olympics are concerned over the outbreak in relation to the venue location, Japan. Though organizers are concerned they have yet to cancel or postpone the games but have until May to make the final decision. This week the International Olympic Committee is planning on holding crisis talks with athletes and federations for further guidance.

Soccer is also expressing concern over the coronavirus pandemic with Major League Soccer (MLS) suspending play for 30 days. Soccer leagues have suspended all games including the Europa, Champions, and Premier League.

Major League Basketball (MLB) has postponed the start of the 2020 season until May according to MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, as of March 16. The MLB league announced on March 12 they will be suspending operations and spring training though they haven’t shut down all spring training sites entirely with sites in Florida and Arizona still open.

Golf tournaments initially intended to continue the PGA Tour as of the Players Championship on March 13 then decided to continue the championship prohibiting patrons from attending including the next three tournaments. After the first round, the championship was canceled and the 2020 Masters has been postponed.

The NBA suspended the upcoming basketball season as of March 11 and team owners are requesting NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, to reevaluate the situation in 30 days.
