Taylor Swift has done it again — in true Swiftian fashion, the pop powerhouse dropped a glittering bombshell right at 12:12 a.m. on August 12. Her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is officially on the way, and if you want the inside scoop, you’ll have to tune into the New Heights podcast this Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
The announcement came via Swift’s social media, where she shared a clip from her upcoming podcast appearance with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce. In the teaser, Swift unveils the album cover — which is cheekily blurred out — as the brothers react like true Swifties seeing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) vinyl for the first time. The caption read:
“Posted at 12:12 on the 12th. ❤️🔥 Tay’s 12th album is called……… pre pre-order now at TaylorSwift.com.”
Preorders for The Life of a Showgirl are already live, offering fans a vinyl, a CD with a poster, and a cassette, all marked to ship “before Oct. 13.” But — in classic Swift mystery mode — the official release date is still under wraps.
If you were in Nashville or New York on Monday night, you might have spotted the Spotify billboards pointing to a playlist curated by Swift called And, baby, that’s show business for you. All the tracks on it? Produced or co-produced by Max Martin and Shellback — the dream team behind some of Swift’s most iconic hits from Red, 1989, and Reputation. Fans are already guessing that this could hint at Showgirl’s sonic sparkle.
The album will be Swift’s first new project since The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024 and her first since officially reclaiming the masters to her first six albums earlier this year — meaning she now owns her entire musical legacy.
Of course, Swifties have been piecing together the clues for weeks. From her habit of typing out exactly twelve repeated letters in posts, to Taylor Nation’s mysterious twelve-photo Instagram drop, to the countdown clock on her website — all signs were pointing to the dawning of Album 12. And with the New Heights podcast promising a “VERY special guest” on August 13 (Swift’s lucky number), the writing was practically in glitter pen.
Now, it’s official: The Life of a Showgirl is coming, and the curtain is about to rise on a brand-new Taylor Swift era.
