Stranger Things fans, consider this your official warning: the road to the finale is about to get very dark — and very emotional.
Co-creator Ross Duffer took to social media this week to share a first look at Volume 2 of the fifth and final season, confirming that production on episodes 5–7 has wrapped and offering fans a peek at what’s waiting for them on Christmas Day.
In a series of behind-the-scenes notes, Ross revealed the titles, directors, and even a few mood-setting hints for each upcoming episode — and it sounds like the stakes in Hawkins have never been higher.
Episode 5, titled “Shock Jock,” picks up right where “Sorcerer” left off. Ross teased that director Frank Darabont returns for this chapter, but in a completely new gear: “It’s far darker and far scarier than anything he’s done with us before,” he shared.
Next up is Shawn Levy’s ambitious “Escape From Camazotz,” which Ross called the biggest episode of the trio — and one packed with emotion. “The performances make us cry every time we watch it,” he wrote, hinting that fans should keep the tissues close.
The final installment of Volume 2, “The Bridge…”, is co-directed by Ross, Matt Duffer, and Levy. While careful not to spoil too much, Ross offered this tantalizing hint: “Aside from the finale, it might be the most emotional chapter of the season.”
Ross also promised that runtime details for the three episodes are on the way, playfully warning fans that it’s going to be “a long six-day wait for the finale.” Netflix recently confirmed the epic length of episode 8 — The Rightside Up — which will premiere both on the platform and in over 500 North American theaters on New Year’s Eve. The streamer even launched a new popup site, ST5Finale.com, to help fans find a screening near them.
Volume 1 of the final season, released November 26, already shifted the series into a darker, more intense gear — especially with Vecna’s chilling return. Actor Jamie Campbell Bower previously described his villain as “calm, considered, and powerful,” and fans have seen that energy on full display. With Will Byers now connected to Vecna’s abilities, the stage is set for an even fiercer showdown as the story barrels toward its conclusion.
Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 2 arrives Christmas Day at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT — and if Ross Duffer’s hints are any indication, fans are in for a haunting, emotional ride straight into the final chapter of Hawkins’ saga.
