Recalls, What You Need To Know!
From exploding airbags to faulty ignition switches deadly automotive defects have captured a lot of headlines through the years. With that being said, in the year 2014 car makers issued a record number of recalls, 803 effecting 64 million cars to be exact, that’s one in every four cars on the road!
With those odds, chances are that you or someone you know has received some kind of a recall notice. So what should you do if you get one? Well to start you always want to pay attention to them and not put them off to the side, as most likely they are safety related. And due to the climbing number of recalls in 2014 NHTSA added a feature on its website where you can check to see if your car has any pending recalls. It’s very simple to use but first you will need your VIN number. Go to safercar.gov and click search for recalls. Then you will be provided with a list of recalls that could date as far back as fifteen years!
And If you happen to be considering a used vehicle, by law dealers don’t have to provide you with nay information on recalls so this site will be sure to help you out.
There are also similar sites that could help you to check up on these recalls that are relatively easy to find and will provide you with the exact same information. And don’t forget just because you may have purchased a new car doesn’t mean you’re off the hook just yet because recalls happen on newer cars more frequently so be aware.
So if you do happen to have a recall whether your car is new or used be sure to call your local dealer because these repairs are free of charge, yes you heard that right so there really is no reason to blow them off. For more information be sure to check out the video above!
